Abstract

The study aimed to investigate efficacy of herbal uterine cleanser and restorative tonic Exapar N in timely expulsion of placenta and for maintenance of post partum reproductive health. For this a clinical trial was conducted in twenty advanced pregnant Nagpuri cows which were randomly divided into two equal groups (I & II), (n=10). Group-I served as untreated control group. Group II animals were orally administered herbal uterine tonic and restorative product Exapar N@50ml/cow/day twice on first day followed by 25ml twice daily for next four days. Amonst various parameters studied were expulsion of placenta, post-partum oestrus induction, incidence of reproductive disorders like retained placenta, repeat breeding etc., number of artificial inseminations required for succesful conception, pregnanacy status of animals. Average time taken for expulsion of placenta, involution of uterus and estrus induction was significantly lower in Exapar N supplemented group II as compared to untreated control group I. Average number of AI required for succesful conception was significantly (Pd”0.01) lower and that of conception rate was significantly (Pd”0.01) higher in group II (1.8±0.64 AI for 70% conception) as compared to control group (2.5±0.9 AI for 40% conception). It may be concluded that the prophylactic administration of Exapar N is helpful in prevention of post partum reproductive disorders in cattle in reducing the number of AI and for improving conception rate.
